Are you Thriving or just Re-carpeting Your Dungeon?

Tags: Coping Mechanisms, Self Empowerment, shamanism

Someone asked me recently how a shaman truly heals and why the average person would need a shaman.

“The level shamanism works at is subtle yet very profound.” I replied. “Do you have patterns in your life that re-occur over and over again?” I asked. “Are you stuck in a loop or cycles that you cannot seem to break, do you have an injury that won’t heal or a chronic illness?”

“Oh, I don’t know, not really,” he said. “Right now everything is going pretty well; you never know when that other shoe will drop, but hey, I get along OK.”

“Exactly!” I say, “There it is...!”

Embedded in the very way you see the world are limits that keep you merely coping instead of thriving. While shamans remove the imprints behind illness and injury they also work with the subtle beliefs that keep you locked into un-empowered lives. Waiting for the other shoe to drop is a coping mechanism designed to avert unmet expectations. It says things may be going well now but don’t get your hopes up, disaster is around the corner. Believing this we avoid disappointment when things go south, but woven into it is the next disaster, waiting to happen. We all have countless maps like this in our psyche shaping our lives, some personal, some handed down to us through our families.

Consider the woman whose angry, addictive father emotionally withdraws from her throughout her childhood. Every man she is intimate with subsequently is angry and withdrawn, an addict, or both. She adapts by bending over backwards trying to keep the peace, even lying to protect him, just like her mother did. She tells herself if she keeps everyone happy they will love her and not hurt her; she becomes the ultimate people pleaser, but she loses herself in the process.

When events like this happen in our lives, either because it is too overwhelming or we did not have the skill set yet to deal with it, a residue of it becomes imprinted onto our souls, or ‘Lightbodies’. These imprints then act as blueprints for how we structure our lives from then on.

Think of it this way: behind the structure of every house there lies a blueprint saying where the doors and windows should be. Every time we build from this blueprint we put in these same doors and windows, just as they are represented on the blueprint. Our Lightbody is such a blueprint for our lives. It contains the energetic designs for our physical and emotional nature. Imprints, however, twist and distort our original blueprints, making living rooms into dungeons. The shaman knows that finding a better way to live with someone else’s destructive behavior is the equivalent of re-carpeting your dungeon.  Until you remove these imprints, and the coping mechanisms around them, you will continue to download your childhood dramas and re-create various versions of them.

A shaman works with your old maps through ceremony. As Einstein noted, you cannot create something from the same state from which it was created. Limitations and dysfunctional behavior come from the very coping mechanisms your intellect devised to keep yourself from further emotional pain. Shamans know these old maps in our psyches originate with imprints etched into our Lightbodies. Using only your mind to heal them does not work. A shamanic healing ceremony aligns you with the very Consciousness that created you to restore your soul.
