Mystical Shamanism

Tags: Michael Harner, Core Shamanism, Alberto Villoldo, Q'ero Indians, Andes Mysticism

Many people with varying trainings, lineages, or "calls from Spirit,” refer to themselves as shamans. It is hard to know who is legitimate and who is not, and what a shaman really is. In Cuzco, Peru, for example, you can find “shamans” all over town selling mystical experiences. Many have access to medicinal plants, but few have training in how to hold space for a client, or even how to speak to the medicinal plants in ceremony. There are others that say no one can call themselves a shaman or be trained as one; it is an honor only bestowed upon one by others.

The actual word “shaman” comes from the Tungusic Evenki language of North Asia. According to anthropological documentation it is the word the Tungus, in particular, used to refer to their medicine person. Spirits inhabited their shamans, affecting others positively, and negatively, and shifting circumstances on the material plane. Some believe that this manifestation of shamanism is the only legitimate form that can claim to use the word “shaman.” Technically, they are correct, as it is a word specific to this one tribe in Siberia. Every other tribe has a different language, and therefore a different word, and each tribe’s practices also vary. While some use use spirits to do their bidding, and others do not, most tribes do have mentors helping young initiates refine their skills.

A World Without Moorings

Tags: Q'ero, Pachakuti, World Order, What can I do?, Prophesies, Mayan Calandar

We are in a time that the Q'ero indians call a Pachakuti, where the world is shaken up and tuned upside down. It has been prophesied to come now, post 2012, where the Mayan calendar ends and a new world begins. The Q'ero went up into the mountains when the last Pachakuti came, as the Conquistadores overtook Peru... and in the 1950's they were directed to come back down off the mountains to help us navigate this next one. It is unsettling to say the least but we all signed up to be here now.

What we are looking at here is the end of an era. Who we have been as a species, and as a culture, is shifting. Some of the shadow parts of who we have been are begging to be seen. They have laid dormant, beneath the surface, operating in silence. Now they are out in the open. While this can be cause for concern, the good news is it is all above ground to be seen now.

The Perfectionist’s Trap

Tags: Perfectionism, Individuality, Uniqueness, Acceptance, Shadow, Creativity

You see it in the fine print of advertisements, the subliminal messaging that there is a state of perfection that you have yet to achieve. It may be your looks, your ability to earn, your social status or even your health but something is amiss, and until you fix it, expect to hide in shame.

Many of us are indoctrinated into this belief system by parents who know that part of mastering their own drive for perfection is having the perfect child. You were marched into formation and asked to tow the line, given rules to live by and standards to achieve. In the process, however, you rejected the parts of yourself that aren’t perfect. When we put our imperfections in shadow we can only see them externally, in our judgements and pity of others. Many, ironically, try to overcome these divisions by helping others change to their ideal.

The Weaving Web

Tags: Quantum Mechaics, Spirituality, Indiginous wisdom, connectivity, entanglement theory

Central to the beliefs of all indigenous cultures is the concept that Nature contains within it a web of consciousness that connects all things. In the Mayan, Hopi and Navajo tribes the weaver of this web is Spider Woman. From her belly she spins threads of conscious thought and crystalizes them into form. Each form then holds within it the awareness of all creation and a connection to all things. The indigenous cultures therefor listen to the trees, the rocks and the wind for guidance.  They also know they have the wisdom of Nature within them. “The bear am I” they say, “The canyon walls, the salmon, the stream am I.” Nature contains the wisdom of the whole within it. They know that the flap of butterfly wings today can become a hurricane tomorrow and when they are in right relationship with the butterfly, the storm subsides.

The Nine Rites: Ancient Initiations and Protections for a Modern World

Tags: Nine rites, Munay ki, q'ero, initiations

Imagine yourself standing at the base of a steep, rugged, snow capped mountain deep in the heart of the Andes. A small sturdy woman in a brightly colored poncho has you kneel as she plunks you on the head with her Mesa, a stone filled medicine bundle. You wince because she is not gentle and exhale a puff of steam into the chilly air. She looks into the sky and calls out in Quechua, her native tongue, then thrusts her stones into your shoulders, heart and belly. She draws your face to hers and says a few more words, then pulls your forehead into hers. You feel an electric energy arc from her third eye to yours and you melt into her. You see a flash of colors, then visions of ancient peoples from all over the world connected through these rites. Tears start to stream down your face. You have just received one of the Nine Rites that link you to the Wisdom Keepers of this land and you have the sense that you are finally home.

Ayni

We as a species are just a tad out of balance with respect to each other, the planet that sustains us, and our creator. Somewhere along the road through human evolution our rational left-brains began to eclipse right-brained connections to spirit. We started drawing lines in the sand and defining our experiences instead of just being. We separated ourselves from Nature, it became either something we fight against or fight over, and we put God in the sky. Significant archeological data indicates that five thousand years ago we knew ourselves to be part of Nature and an extension of the creative force, not entities separate from it. This shift has perched us on the brink of calamity. Whereas once survival depended upon living consciously, in balance, with all things it now is based on how many commodities we posses in a world of limited resources, fostering greed and fears of scarcity. We take what we want, when we want it and say we’re sorry later, if pressed, or we are helpless victims to this. If we want to continue to live on this planet it is time we remember the old ways.

The Q’ero Indians of Peru, famous for their wisdom and the integrity of their healing practices, came down off their mountains to help us remember the ancient ways. Central to their teachings is the concept of “Ayni,” or “right-relationship,” a word that needs to be re-introduced into our modern vocabulary.

Becoming a Mesa Carrier

Tags: Mesa Carrier, Five Elements, Co-Creation, Q'ero Indians

It is a crazy time to be on the planet right now! The problems are so big most of us feel helpless. What do we do about the economy, Fukushima, climate changes...where do we even start? As strange as it may seem, deepening your spiritual path may be the answer. Because we are all connected, the more each of us takes responsibility for raising our personal vibration the more we help shift the vibration of the entire planet. Our personal vibration raises and lowers with the way we think, or visualize, how conscious we are and how we walk our talk. Becoming more aware of our ego, and the shadows it casts, is the first step to becoming conscious. When we are aware of what we are creating we can then start taking responsibility for our actions and create consciously. This raises our vibration. For many people the Shamanic path is an excellent way to refine this journey of soul awareness. Based on thousands of years of wisdom, it steps you out of Victim Consciousness and into the responsibility of being a Co-Creator.

Surfing The Quantum Field

Tags: Quantum Healing, Energy Medicine, Star Trek

Remember when Bones from the 1960’s Star Trek used to run a little scanner over his patients? Not only would he know what was wrong with them, but the scanner instantly fixed the problem – healing happened quickly and miraculously. We all thought, “Yeah, this is the future of medicine!” Instead, we stayed mired in the rigidness of Newtonian physics. By this I mean our biomedical research has been focusing on causes and effects not possibilities! We built larger more expensive machines to detect and analyze our symptoms and created stronger target specific medicines to relieve them. But this is all cause and effect thinking. If we want to radically change the way we do medicine we need to step out of fate and into the Quantum Age. Instead of looking at patients like Isaac Newton would, as rigid predictable statistics, doctors could be thinking like quantum physicists and realizing our future has many possible outcomes. The shamans of old know this and journey into our future to manifest our healed state just by seeing it!

What Exactly Are You Communicating?

Tags: Communication, vibration, awareness, Frequency, Language

Meditations on Words...

Words are what set us apart from other living things, our ability to communicate verbally. Some words, like food, have the flavor and nutrients that make us thrive while others bite and burn and bring us down. People hear what we say and they hear what we don't say. In language the omissions and tone say at least as much as the words we have chosen. So often we use our words unconsciously without considering their effect. We withhold words of praise and dish out the jabs and jeers. Sometimes we justify this in the guise of humor. But if it stings, it is something else. Humor at the expense of someone, even ourselves, is a mild form of sorcery.

Victim Thinking

Tags: vibration, attachment, Consciousness, Emotions, Frequency, imprints, Paradigm shift, Perception, self respect, victim

When we remember that nothing is truly personal we stay out of victim thinking. No one is doing anything to us, we are just experiencing their reactions to their environment, which we may be a part of. They may even mean their reactions as personal but it has way more to do with them, their history and imprints, than it has to do with us.
